Introduction

The Scottish pelagic industry, based in North East Scotland and Shetland, ranks among the best in the world. A modern, technologically advanced fleet of refrigerated sea water tank vessels supplies a progressive, well-equipped processing sector. The industry is involved in the catching and processing of some of the finest fish stocks found in the North East Atlantic and North Sea. The species involved include herring, mackerel, horse mackerel and blue whiting.
